Located on the Liurong Road and built in 537, it offers you a rich heritage of historic relics. Six Banyan Temple in Guangzhou underwent several phases of remodeling and was earlier known by various names like Changshou Temple (Longevity Temple) and Jinghui Temple.
History says that Six Banyan Temple was given its present name by the great litterateur, Su Dongpo during the Song Dynasty. He spotted the six banyan trees in the temple while he was on his way to the north at a point of time. Th sigt of the trees vitalized him so much that he suggested the present name when asked about one by the abbot of the temple. Thereafter, Jinghui Temple was renamed.
